Finding the Genius of our Creator in Nature and Scripture

Conclusion – Why study Intelligent Design?

Conclusion – Why study Intelligent Design?

First, seeing God through what he’s created is a key ingredient for faith.

Just as Paul said in Romans 1:20, “God’s eternal power and divine nature can be clearly seen from what he has made”.  That’s even more true today thanks to improved research tools, the science they make possible, and an ID perspective.

Second, with a basic understanding of ID, your faith is strengthened by knowing that science doesn’t contradict it.

Third, you can’t prove the existence of God like a geometry proof, but I think you can prove that without a Creator, we couldn’t be here…

  • Nothing in nature could produce life from non-life.
  • The forces of nature are always working against life.
  • Materialism’s only option is blind chance.

Fourth, you can expect about 3/4ths of young people to get to college, be persuaded by a professor who sounds really smart, and walk away from their faith.  Understanding ID makes that less likely.

And finally, scripture agrees that God’s actions in the world are unmistakable:

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”

Romans 1:20 NIV

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”

Psalm 19:1 NIV

“But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you.  Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this?”

Job 12:7-9 NIV

ID Can Change your Worldview

We all belong to an ID book club that meets monthly in Roseville.  We’ve brought examples of the books we’ve read over the past 5 years.  So, when we finish with Q&A you’re invited to come look them over.  What you read helps form your worldview; it can also change your worldview.

Gunter Bechly was a prominent paleobiologist.  (He unfortunately died a year or so ago in a car accident.)  He was asked to create a display for Darwin Day at the museum where he was curator.  It was clever – he showed a balance beam with Origin of Species outweighing about a dozen books about ID.  It was a popular display and things were going well until he made the mistake of reading the ID books.  He changed his mind very publicly, lost his positions, and began writing about what was wrong with Darwinism.

Antony Flew was a prominent atheist, evolutionist and philosopher.  Then learned how DNA forms part of a code, changed his mind and wrote this book:

He had spent his life arguing there is no God…but now understood differently and wrote a book There Is a God.
